Ron Tannert graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts Education. He began working in the new construction field in 1978, supervising for other building companies. He also had prior experience in highway construction. Since 1986, they have been working together as husband and wife team in the design and construction business.

Our corporation, Designer’s Way began as an interior design practice in Raleigh in 1980. In 1985, it was incorporated and in 1986, it acquired a contractor’s license and added the construction services. From an interest in solar energy, many of the first homes were built using active and passive solar.  Around 1994, the product line was expanded to include timberframe homes.   In a move to Wake Forest in 2001, the interior design division took the operating name of Art of Design and the building division became Natural Homes to better reflect our mission of eco-friendly, energy-efficient homes. In 2007, we moved home and office into a hybrid timberframe home in North Raleigh.  At the end of 2008, as our world moves toward alternative energy sources, we have added the Solarco division, to provide sales and installation of solar electric pv panels.
